RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}
Then I think I know the reason he was kicked out, his peedee dribbles while he is sleeping. So we put someting down on the carpet where his is going to lay down.
Richard,
Our Springer Molly had urinary incontinence as well, only in her sleep. Vet said it was due to weakness in urethral muscle. He prescribed PPA, which I think is the same as Proin50, she took it for a year or so and we took her off it to see how she would do, and no more incontinence! That was about 6 years ago and she's not had a problem since.
Charlie is a great looking dog, and that puppy is just the sweetest thing! Good luck with them both. You and Sue are angels!
RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}
Dear Richard and Sue,
A couple of months back I was looking through the forums and came across this thread. I took the time to read almost every bit of it, from beginning to end. Although like some others, I have not posted, I have faithfully checked on you and Old Fella every day, first thing in the morning and last thing at night and followed his story through your loving eyes. It has been, and I'm sure will continue to be an amazing journey.
My heart hurts and I am saddened for you beyond belief that Fella has passed from this earth. He was a special gift to you, your family, and your extended forum family, as you all were to him and I know he's an Angel at the bridge. It is truly amazing to me how one dog can do so much for so many and through you, his legacy of love will live on through many many years to come!
I send my healing thoughts and prayers to you during this time of sorrow and as you go to through the difficult days ahead, and I hope that one day soon you can think of him without sadness, but with joy -the joy of knowing you shared your life with one very special dog.
Take good care. Gentle hugs for you both, and for Susie and Izzy.
Wendy
RE: Please tell us your FUNNY PET STORIES. Pictures too.
I wrote earlier about "losing little Lizzy". Here's a photo (if I can figure out how to post it). Judithhttp://img397.imageshack.us/img397/1281/findthepuppymediumnq2.jpg
Oh my gosh, I don't wonder why you couldn't find her. What a great picture. Bless her, she's such a little cutie!
RE: Give a haircut or not?
Might I make a suggestion - when you take Rocky to the groomer, I would stay with him the first time so you can make sure you get exactly what you want. I have heard many stories of dogs not being groomed according to their owners wishes.
RE: Training Small Yorkie???
getting rid of the piddle pads inside since they can at times confuse puppies in the training process
I would agree with this. I wouldn't use both piddle pads and outside. I think consistency is the main thing so as not to confuse her. If you can, watch her closely and look for signs that she is about to go and take her out immediately. If you can't watch her closely, I would take her out every hour or so, and immediately after she wakes up and praise her alot and give her treats when she does go. Take her to the very same spot outside every time and eventually she'll get to know what she's supposed to do. Good luck and have patience.
RE: Help name our puppy.....
I saw a picture of a female Cavalier on a breeders website that was called "ISLAY". I thought the name was adorable, and if I ever have another Cavalier, that's what her name is going to be, It just seems to fit a small, elegant dog. Much good luck with your new little Pap!
Here is where the name comes from:
"Islay whisky is Scotch whisky made on Islay (pronounced /?a?l??/ eye-luh), the southernmost of the Inner Hebridean Islands located off the west coast of Scotland. There are eight active distilleries on the island, as of early 2008, with a ninth being made ready for production. Islay is a centre of "whisky tourism", and hosts a "Festival of Malt and Music" each year at the end of May, with events and tastings celebrating the cultural heritage of the island.

Topsail Hill
I've not been here but I've heard it's supposed to be a great campground. Located 10 mi. E. of Destin in Santa Rosa Beach.
RE: Jayco Eagle 341RLQS
We have the same fifth wheel, a 2008, and found not one problem with it during the PDI. Although not a big deal, I have since found a couple of burrs on the edge of the counter top. Just run your hands along the edges to make sure all the edges are smooth. Also, you might want to see if you can get your dealer to throw in some extra of the plastic latches for the mirrored closet doors. They're quite cheaply made and we have broken a couple of them already.
There were a couple of things that bothered us that we changed right away. I didn't like that the medicine cabinet opened to the right because it kept hitting the wall, so I had my DH reverse the door so it opens to the left. Also, I am 5' 7" tall and the height of the shower was such that it sprayed me right in the face, so I had him put in an adjustable height slider.
The unit couldn't be better. Although we have only had it out once, we had no problems and we are very pleased with it so far.
Enjoy!
RE: Heartland Big Country v. Jayco Eagle
SPANIELMOM,
Thanks for the info. What type of rockers did you get? LaZBoys or the Euro gliders?
Thanks in advance.
whs9841,
We got two of this Berkline swivel rocker recliner. Small profile, wallaway, very comfortable and we were able to match the fabric exactly.Berkline Rocker #70038 I think they meant which style came with the trailer originally, that you found uncomfortable.
Ahaaaa - the ones that came with the Jayco? Not euros, some brand of upholstered swivel rockers. I don't think they're La Z Boys because they're the most uncomfortable chairs we've ever sat in.

RE: Heartland Big Country v. Jayco Eagle
We have the Jayco Eagle 341RLQS and although we got it late last fall and have only had it out once, we are happy with the quality and love it so far. This is our first Jayco and no problems yet. We have the 2008 40th anniversary edition which included some upgrades - pillow-top matress, flat screen LCD TV in living area and electric awning. The two year warranty is also a nice bonus!
Only complaint we have had is the rockers are very uncomfortable. We have already swapped them out.
Good luck!
RE: Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
Please DO NOT allow your little heart dog to ride on your lap in the truck. If you are in an accident... and it could be a minor one, just enough to set off the airbags, you will have killed your little dog. Caught between you and the airbag, that little mite doesn't even have a prayer.
Susan,
You are correct. Thanks so much for the reminder!

RE: Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
Tim and Miriam,
We have a 13 mo. old Blenheim Cav girl and I can honestly say she is the best and the sweetest dog we've ever had. She's such a happy little girl. She is truly our heart dog. She loves to camp and loves to travel in the car/truck (rides very happily sitting on my lap). I would not hesitate to highly recommend the breed.
The great thing about Cavaliers is they adapt very nicely to their people's lifestyles. They are happy romping in the grass/snow, or just snuggling on your lap. Just a great dog. She's a smart girl and learns very quickly. She is great with children and loves my other dog, Molly the Springer, although Molly is 7 y/o and loses patience with her.
Although she once in a while will have an accident if I don't get her out in time, she was very easy to potty train. She lets me know in no uncertain terms by scratching on the door when she needs to go out.
The Cavalier is a long haired dog, so will shed some, but so far her shedding seems light. When I brush her I don't get much hair in the brush, (although she won't get her full coat until she's about two) and I haven't seen alot of dander.
Having said all that, some concerns I would have would be, Cavaliers have no street sense whatsoever. They need to be leashed or be in a fenced in yard. They would chase a butterfly or a rabbit right in the path of a moving car!!!!! They also, like most purebreeds, are prone to some health issues like luxating patella, syringomyelia, dry eye and Mitral Valve Disease, so be sure to do your research and choose your breeder very carefully. Make sure the parents have the proper health screenings (hearts, eyes and knees). I would do a google search on questions that you would want to ask a breeder. There is wealth of information out there. There are also Cavalier rescue sites.
Good luck in your search for that perfect puppy and feel free to PM me if you would like. I love to talk Cavaliers!
RE: What are your Nicknames for your pet?
Phoebe the 1 y/o Cavalier - Febes, Feebers, Feebie Jeebie, Chick Magnet, Bobble Head,. (She has this very cute and endearing way of moving her head from side to side when she runs)
Molly the 7 y/o Springer - Molly P, Punkin, Miss Molly
They both will answer immediately to "Who wants a cookie"
They bring us so much joy every day!

Why not try creating your own Trifle? This should give you some ideas.

RE: cabin fever!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, we've got cabin fever too! We'll be going tomorrow, as we always do. We're not in the market, but we never get tired of looking! We'll be bringing some friends, another couple whom we hope will get bitten by the new 5ver bug!
